Bow Underslide Repair

The Problem

A fine gold mounted viola bow (unstamped) was brought to us for repair work. There was substantial damage to the gold underside. This had been caused by trying to tighten the eyelet by using the screw and button as well as a pair of common hardware store pliers. Neither of these approaches is actually suitable for tightening or loosening the eyelet.

The damage was severe enough that the owner was in danger of being cut by the jagged metal. The damage to the frog did not stop with only the underslide - the adjoining ebony had also been broken out.

Solution

The repair involved removing, reforming, and reseating the underslide. The ebony also had to be repaired.
