Flamenco for Solo Cello published by Schott.
Originally conceived as a Piano Trio, this piece was eventually arranged by the composer for solo cello. This background offers an explanation for the double-stopping and chordal writing that features throughout the piece, giving it a rich full sound.
Entire passages of pizzicato recall the sounds of flamenco guitar, while lyrical passages in the middle section bring out the typical character of flamenco. A meloncholy musical line is expressed with virtuoso instrumental skill, drawing players and listeners alike under its spell.
