Son of Hartmut Knoll, studied at the Mittenwald violin making school from 1985-88. Apprenticed with his father and also worked with C. Hans-Karl Schmidt. Was awarded a "mention speciale" for his violin bow in the 1999 2nd international violin and bow making competition in Paris. Did his master's exam in 1998 under HWK Chemnitz and has since worked in the family workshop making bows bearing his own stamp (Gerald R. Knoll)
