Jean-Benoît Stensland apprenticed in Montreal with luthier Antoine Robichaud with whom he made his first violin and viola. He won a Canada Council grant in 1980 to study at the international school of stringed-instrument making in Cremona, Italy. Stensland now spends virutally all of his time making new violins, violas and cellos. He also runs a shop in central Montreal.
