Antonin Dvorak spent a few weeks writing three chamber pieces in the spring of 1875. The last of them, Quartet in D major for violin, viola, cello and piano, is more lyrical and intimate in its expression and became popular for its distinctive approach and formal arrangement. The quartet is one of Dvorak's three-movement pieces, and the way in which the movements are treated is very free and innovative. This title is part of the first Complete Critical Edition of Works by Antonin Dvorak.
