Violins for Haiti
The Holy Trinity Music School (École Musique Ste Trinite) in Port-au-Prince is the largest and oldest music school in Haiti with over 1200 music students of all ages and levels. Following the devastating earthquake on January 12th, 2010, the school was reduced to rubble and most of its instruments destroyed. A group of volunteers including Violist Marie Peebles and the staff of The Sound Post are organizing a fund-raising/donation drive to help the school and its students get back on their musical feet.
According to preliminary estimates over 300 replacement violins, violas, cellos and basses are needed at the school plus music stands, strings, music, rosin and accessories. Our plan is to use The Sound Post website to facilitate donations to the school when their exact needs become clear and transportation arrangements are in place.
